Nikka Gershman’s transcription of Ravel’s “La Valse” will be performed on flute for the first time

NEW YORK, NY, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Nikka Gershman, flutist and composer, will premiere her groundbreaking original transcription of Ravel’s “La Valse”, which has never been performed on flute before.

Ravel’s rich and mesmerizing harmonies are displayed in the intertwining counterpoint between the flute and piano, their voices engrossing the sound of the entire orchestra. This premiere commemorates the 150th anniversary of Ravel’s birth and will take place on February 19th at Paul Hall, The Juilliard School, at 6:00pm. As the youngest ever Kovner Fellow accepted to Juilliard at age 15, Gershman, now 17 years old, will be the only undergraduate musician featured on this Sonatenabend program, a concert series designed for graduate-level students. Gershman will collaborate with Kovner Fellow pianist Saul Ibarra Ramos, winner of numerous international competitions and the Artistic Director of ‘Festival de Música Axixic Haus der Musik’.
