One Weekend - Two First Prizes
In an extraordinary weekend, Nikka won two top prizes in both the East Coast and West Coast competitions for her rendition of the Flute Concerto in E Minor by Saverio Mercadante. On Friday, in addition to receiving first place, she was awarded the coveted top Young Virtuoso prize, by the esteemed New York Young Virtuoso Competition. Following this achievement, on Sunday, she was one of the nine phenomenal finalists to perform in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, live in front of a fully sold out auditorium and a panel of celebrity judges. Nikka was the first prize winner in the Winds & Brass category, receiving not only a $5000 prize, but most importantly a prestigious chance to return with a solo performance in January 2022, under the baton of renowned conductor Maestro Salvador Brotons with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA. "The artistry on display this year was incredible," says VSO Music Director & Conductor, Salvador Brotons. "It is an honor to host this annual gathering of talent and we look forward to welcoming our Gold Medalists to the stage for their VSO debuts in January."
